The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government strongly opposes the so-called US "Report"'s comments on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government strongly opposed the comments on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in the so-called "2020 National Human Rights Report" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") issued by the US State Department on March 31.

The spokesperson of the SAR government reiterated that foreign governments should not interfere in the internal affairs of the Hong Kong SAR in any form.

A spokesman for the SAR government stated that human rights are fully protected by law in Hong Kong.

As a constitutional document of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Basic Law provides constitutional guarantees for fundamental rights and freedoms, including the guarantee of equal rights before the law, and is strengthened under the rule of law and judicial independence.

The protection of human rights and freedoms is the constitutional responsibility of the SAR government. The SAR government attaches great importance to and firmly safeguards human rights and freedoms in Hong Kong.

The spokesman said that the so-called "report" of the United States questioned whether China is still implementing "one country, two systems". This is a completely unfounded accusation.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is an inseparable part of the People's Republic of China. It is a local administrative region that enjoys a high degree of autonomy under the "One Country, Two Systems" and is directly under the Central People's Government.

The implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy is in the interests of the people of Hong Kong, meets the needs of maintaining Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and conforms to the fundamental interests of the country.

The Central People's Government has repeatedly stated that it will unswervingly implement the "One Country, Two Systems" policy.

The spokesperson said that he strongly opposes the comments in the "report" that discredit Hong Kong's National Security Law.

National security belongs to the central authority. Every country has the right and obligation to maintain its national security. Regardless of whether the country implements a single system or a federal system, national security legislation is carried out by the central government rather than the local government.

The enactment of national security laws with extraterritorial effects is also in full compliance with international practice.

Defamation of the Hong Kong National Security Law for political purposes is obviously a hypocritical act of double standards.
