Stand Up L'Oréal Paris

  • Training courses offered by L'Oréal Paris in collaboration with Hollaback and the Fondation des Femmes make it possible to tackle the problem of street harassment and take action to help victims.

  • The Right to Walk association of Edhec Nice has focused its actions on this problem and hopes to go through awareness and education to put an end to these behaviors.

“We were on the beach in Nice with a group of girlfriends,” says Nine in a video on the Right to Walk account.

During the evening, we realized that a group of men were watching us.

When we wanted to join our Uber to return, this same group followed us and began to surround us.

We ran and knocked on all hotel doors ”.

For Ilona, it was "a man on the Promenade des Anglais" who "spat on her" because she "did not respond to his advances".

Every Friday, on Instagram, this association of Edhec "gives a voice to women by publishing their testimony so that everyone becomes aware of the need to change things", indicates Zacharie Di Pietro, one of the founders.

“When I arrived in Nice, I was surprised at the number of women around me who had already suffered this kind of situation,” he says.

All, absolutely all, had a history of street harassment, it was shocking.

With four comrades, we then decided to lead our school project around this cause that was close to our heart and to create Right to Walk.

For us, the most effective way to overcome this problem is through awareness and education ”.

A "concrete program with results"

At 5 p.m. this Thursday, students will also be able to benefit from a “StandUp” training.

A year ago, L'Oréal Paris set up this “concrete program that gives results” with the NGO Hollaback, which is already working on university campuses in the United States and the Women's Foundation.

"We propose the" 5D "method

: distract, delegate, document, lead and dialogue.

These are five simple but effective actions to intervene in complete safety.

Whether you are a victim or a witness, it concerns us all, ”explains Sophie Le Corre, director of communications for the company.

In 2019, L'Oréal Paris launched an international survey with Ipsos on “the causes to be tackled on a daily basis as women” and street harassment came first.

“81% of the women who responded had already experienced street harassment.

Given the number of people involved, we wanted to set up a mechanism to go further and take action.

The brand has always wanted to support women in their emancipation, ”says Sophie Le Corre.

20% of female victims would have liked to be helped at the time of harassment

“The survey revealed that 20% of female victims would have liked to be helped at the time of harassment,” continues the communications director.

And that all the witnesses would have liked to do something but did not know what.

We then focused on this request to create the program ”.

There are two ways to train with “StandUp”: in ten minutes on the site or in more depth with a professional from the Women's Foundation with whom it is possible to interact.

“The session lasts around 1 hour,” explains Mélanie Suhas, project manager.

It is then divided into four stages: the trainer in charge of prevention gives again the concept of street harassment, explains the consequences and the impacts, explains the “5D” method and a simulation part closes the training ”.

"It is time for everyone to take up the question"

Students are a "logical" target.

The manager explains: “It seems important to us to reach this audience.

Even if all age groups are concerned, women under 35 are the first victims.

In addition, we feel that generation is receptive and in demand.

We see it with other feminist or ecological movements.

It's a generation that wants to make things happen and feel capable of acting in addition to reacting ”.

A feeling shared by Aude Novial and Enzo Gode, managers of the Face06 prevention pole who are co-organizing the event.

“We have become so aware of things that as a woman, we adapt our ways of acting in public spaces,” says Aude Novial.

Now it is time for everyone to take up the problem, even as a witness ”.

She recalls: “Training is not just for women.

We need as many students as possible to use this opportunity to talk about it and for this problem to end little by little ”.
