Due to the increasing number of corona infections, the federal government will classify Croatia, including the holiday region Istria, as a risk area from Saturday.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced this on the Internet on Thursday.
This means that everyone who comes to Germany from Croatia has to be in quarantine again for ten days, from which they can free themselves after five days with a second negative corona test.
The first test must take place no later than 48 hours after entry.
The Istrian peninsula, which is popular with German holidaymakers, was temporarily removed from the RKI's risk list on March 7th.
Countries and regions with more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days (seven-day incidence) are classified as risk areas.
It is the lowest of three risk categories of the RKI.
The Spanish region of Rioja will also be new in this category from Saturday.
Two regions in Ireland and Finland as well as the Portuguese capital Lisbon will be completely removed from the risk list.
This means that the whole of mainland Portugal is “risk-free”.
Only the holiday island of Madeira in the Atlantic is still considered a risk area.

Countries with an incidence of more than 200 are classified in the medium risk category.
This will also include Peru and Chile in South America from Sunday.
There were no changes in the highest risk level with the areas with particularly dangerous virus variants.
The Easter weekend threatens to get restless in Stuttgart due to several demonstrations against the Corona requirements and planned counter-protests.
According to the city, at least four demonstrations against the pandemic restrictions are planned on Saturday alone, including a rally of the so-called lateral thinking movement in the afternoon on the Cannstatter Wasen.
The organizers are expecting around 2500 participants for this protest.
