Colin Firth will slip into the shoes of Michael Peterson for a new series broadcast on HBO Max.
According to
Variety
, the British actor will star in
The Staircase
, an 8-episode miniseries based on the eponymous docu-series that tells the story of the author, convicted of murdering his wife Kathleen in 2001.
The writer had called for help, saying he had found his wife dead after what he described as a fall down the stairs.
But investigators were convinced he hit her before disguising the crime scene to make it look like an accident.
Sentenced in 2003, he was released in 2017.
The case has already been the subject of several television and radio documentaries and Michael Peterson had even gone so far as to release an autobiography devoted to his life since the death of his wife in 2019, entitled
Behind the Staircase
(
Derrière l'Escalier
).

, written by Antonio Campos (
The Devil All the Time
) and Maggie Cohn, will mark Colin Firth's return to television after almost 15 years.
He appeared in 2007 in
Celebration
, the adaptation of a play by Harold Pinter.
The actor has since won an Oscar for his role in
The King's Speech
, and has also established himself as an action movie star with the
Kingsman
franchise
.

No release date has yet been announced, the project was only at the signing stage.
It is therefore likely that it will not be released before the end of 2022.
