During the physical education class, it was found that 37 elementary schools in Nagasaki Prefecture are instructing to prohibit wearing underwear under gym clothes.

The Japan Sports Agency says, "If it does not respect the feelings of children and the opinions of parents, it should be reviewed."

NHK conducted a questionnaire last month to the boards of education of all 21 local governments in Nagasaki Prefecture to see if there is any instruction to prohibit wearing underwear under gym clothes at elementary schools.

As a result, 19 local governments excluding the two cities responded, and it was found that 37 schools, which is 14% of the 265 schools, are instructing to prohibit wearing underwear.

Regarding the reasons for giving such guidance, there were answers such as "Continuing to wear underwear even after sweating has problems in terms of hygiene and health management."

Regarding such guidance, parents of children have said that it is embarrassing for older girls and that it is cold in winter with short sleeves and shorts.

Last month, the Japan Sports Agency inspected the board of education nationwide about wearing underwear during physical education classes at elementary schools to see if it was rational and respected the opinions of children and parents. If we decide that it is not, we ask you to review it.

According to the Japan Sports Agency, "In addition to the guidance for girls, the guidance prohibiting wearing in winter should be reviewed unless it respects the feelings of the children and the opinions of their parents."
