The 4 Pattounes

  • Since January 6, a young cat had been abandoned in an apartment in Cugnaux, in the Toulouse suburbs, without food or light.

  • She was rescued last Friday and renamed "Miracle".

  • Police officer and founder of the association "Les 4 Pattounes", Céline Gardel announces the filing of a complaint.

Failing to know the name she had in her first existence, the surviving cat was baptized "Miracle".

"Because it's a miracle that she's still alive," says Céline Gardel.

This police captain founded the animal protection association “Les 4 Pattounes” almost two years ago.

She had never seen a situation similar to that of this young feline, rescued this Tuesday in Cugnaux, in the southwestern suburb of Toulouse.

Since January 6 and the departure of the occupants of the place, Miracle had been left alone in an apartment located on the ground floor.

More exactly, she was stuck in the kitchen, plunged in the dark, since the doors and shutters of the apartment were closed.

Meowing saved her

“There was no more water, no more food.

I don't know how she survived, ”Céline Gardel is still astonished.

Abandoned and stuck, the young cat, aged about a year, had only one resource: meow.

And it was his cries that ended up intriguing the neighborhood.

Message on social networks, then word of mouth ... The case ended up arriving last Friday until the policewoman and animal friend, who contacted the municipal police in the process.

Alerted, a neighbor managed to reach the former tenants who had gone to live elsewhere.

“They said they were sending the keys by Chronopost, but it wasn't going fast enough,” says Céline Gardel.

Monday, I called the gendarmes.

"

Finally, the former occupants of the apartment allowed the neighbor "to open the door, even without a key".

In other words, to call on a locksmith, paid by the “4 Pattounes”.

In the dark, Miracle first took refuge under a piece of furniture, before joining the light, its saviors and saviors.

After almost three months of ordeal, "she was hypercâline," smiles Céline Gardel.

The cat, very emaciated, was to be examined this Wednesday at the vet.

Placed in a foster family, she finds herself in a hybrid administrative situation for a few more months and the outcome of the complaint lodged with the Cugnaux gendarmerie.

“My association is bringing a civil action,” continues its founder.

The owners face up to two years in prison and a fine of 50,000 euros for voluntary abandonment.

We ask for the confiscation of the cat, to be able to put her up for adoption, the prohibition of owning animals as well as damages, in particular for the costs incurred with the locksmith.

"

Towards an animal brigade?

In addition, “Les 4 Pattounes” intervene for awareness-raising missions in schools.

“We do projects with classes, develops Céline Gardel.

For this cat, it is fifth grade students from the Emilie-de-Rodat college in Toulouse who will sell goodies or cakes for veterinary care.

"

Beyond this exceptional case, the police captain is working to create an animal brigade, in the same way as that in charge of narcotics, for example, which would bring together police and gendarmes.

“At the moment, we are not studying the regulations specific to animals at the police academy,” she notes.

We have the encouragement of the Minister of the Interior.
