Coronavirus: Covid-19 vaccination schedule: groups and vaccines
Carolina Darias
, Minister of Health, has reported that this Thursday a batch of more than one million
AstraZeneca vaccines
will arrive
in Spain.
Vaccines that will add to the million doses of Pfizer and Moderna received earlier this week.
The announcement came at the press conference after the meeting of the Interterritorial Health Council held this Wednesday in Valladolid.
Darias has been accompanied by the Minister of Health of Castilla y León, Verónica Casado.
Regarding the advance of vaccination, the Minister of Health has detailed that the vaccination of groups 1 to 6 is progressing at a good pace.
As indicated,
80% of the individuals belonging to this group have the first dose
and 40% have received the full regimen with two doses.
The press conference began with the minister thanking all the Autonomous Communities for their work in the fight against the
coronavirus
.
"This minister likes to recognize the work of others. I want to acknowledge the work and effort that all the CCAA are carrying out in the fight that we maintain to defeat the virus. It is a fight in which there is no color, only the I want the determination and courage to end this pandemic. "
Despite the good words,
Darias has called for "maximum prudence"
in the fight against the virus because "we are at a critical moment."
"We are in a period of valley transmission with an upward trend
in almost all territories," he pointed out.
He also wanted to highlight his concern about the different strains of the virus that circulate in Spain, especially the British one:
"It is worrying because of the context in which we are spreading the British variant,
more transmissible and more virulent. We estimate that it has a prevalence of the 60/70% nationwide. With some territories where it is more than 80% ".
Furthermore, Darias recalled,
"ICU beds are around 18.5%, close to 20%".
This level of occupancy, he stressed, is slightly higher than what we have had in previous waves.
"
We need to buy time
because every week that we can delay the increase in infections, we are buying time for the virus. We need the vaccines to buy time for the virus to prevent this rebound from going back to a new fourth wave."
On the mandatory use of masks
In his speech from Valladolid, Darias has also advanced the
joint intention by Health and the Autonomous Communities to address the recently approved law
that, among other measures, regulates the use of masks.
In this sense, the minister pointed out that "technical work is being carried out to try, within the scope allowed by law, to
develop technical criteria for the application of this law for the next inter-territorial council
. I hope that within that margin of action we can find a space to apply this law in the most harmonized and contextualized way possible, "he stressed.
