A rare snow crab with a bluish-purple color was found off the coast of San'in, and is open to the public at the crab exhibition facility in Tottori City.

This snow crab was found off the coast of Shimane Prefecture, and has been donated by a fisherman and has been exhibited at the crab exhibition facility "Tottori Kanikkokan" in Tottori City since 27th last month.

This crab is a male snow crab, and the part of the shell that is originally red is bluish purple because the amount and function of the pigment called carotenoid is not normal.

Depending on the facility, it is extremely rare to find a blue-purple snow crab, and this is the first exhibition in about eight years.

A 37-year-old man living in Tottori City, who visited with his 3-year-old son, said, "I was lucky to see a rare crab because it was the first exhibition in eight years."

Yoshito Nakakura of "Tottori Kanikkokan", who is in charge of crab breeding, said, "It's been about a month since the crabs were landed and the crabs are weak, so if you are interested, come to the museum as soon as possible. I want you to enjoy the unusual appearance of crabs. "
