For several days, the circulation of the Covid-19 virus has been racing at the Paul-Esquinance college in the town of La Réole, in the Gironde.

After the detection of 62 positive cases, including three among the staff of the establishment, the prefecture, in consultation with the National Education, the ARS and the municipality, decided to close the college from this Tuesday and until to April 6 inclusive.

The first declared positive case appeared on March 19 and isolation measures were taken for the schoolboy concerned and his relatives.

Nonetheless, the virus continued to spread and as of March 29, four classes were closed.

New screening on April 6

“Last Thursday, the municipality seized the prefecture and the departmental delegation ARS of Gironde, in order to close the establishment, specifies the Agency in its press release.

After consultation, a joint decision by the prefecture, ARS and National Education was taken to leave the college open and to propose a massive screening operation scheduled for Monday, March 29.

»On this occasion, 10 positive cases were detected, bringing the total to 62. It was at this time that the college was closed.

“Students and staff in contact with them must respect seven days of isolation.

At the end of this isolation, screening will be offered on April 6, in order to allow students with a negative test to return to the establishment as of April 7, ”specifies the ARS.

Screening operations

The town hall, in conjunction with the Center Hospitalier Sud Gironde, also organizes the screening of parents of students via PCR tests on Tuesday March 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., upon registration at the Amicale laïque (Avenue Gabriel Chaigne, 33190 La Réole).

General public screening will also be offered by the ARS with the anti-covid (LAC) mobile team to all residents of the area on Wednesday March 31 and Friday April 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. via antigen tests (nasal swab ) results within 20 minutes.
