The mystery of "Aunt Mei": 4 years after being confessed, the identity of the 9 abducted children has not been found

In the movie "The Dark Whistle of Yangcheng", there is a character named "Aunt Mei" whose identity is mysterious and deeply hidden. In the end, she was found to be a female spy chief.

Nowadays, the name "Aunt Mei" is circulating in Guangdong and other places-she is considered to be a "human trafficker" involved in the abduction and trafficking of 9 boys.

On March 26, 2021, the nine child trafficking cases involving "Aunt Mei" were heard by the Guangdong High Court.

During the trial, "Aunt Mei" was mentioned many times.

Zhang Weiping, one of the main culprits in the case, said that all the nine abducted boys contacted the buyer through "Aunt Mei".

He stated in court that the simulated portrait painted by the police before was "not like" "Aunt Mei" himself.

After the trial ended on March 26, Shen Junliang was interviewed by the media.

The pictures in this article are all photos by The Paper reporter Zhu Yuanxiang unless otherwise noted.

"Please the procuratorial organs to strengthen supervision, and the public security departments to strengthen investigations," said Shen Junliang, the plaintiff in the civil lawsuit in the original trial on the 26th. "Aunt Mei must be caught and the other four children who were not found must be retrieved. "

Who is the mysterious "Aunt Mei"?

Four years after Zhang Weiping confessed to her, this mystery remains unsolved.

On the afternoon of March 26, the staff of the Command Center of the Zengcheng Sub-bureau of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau told The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) that the case handling department of the bureau was still investigating "Aunt Mei", and there was no new breakthrough at the moment. The results will be announced to the society as soon as possible."

The 4 defendants apologized at the trial site and the case will be reported to the trial committee

The second instance was held on March 26, and the Guangdong High Court chose the court in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou City.

Affected by factors such as epidemic prevention, the trial took the form of remote video, and the five defendants in the original trial received a remote trial at the Zengcheng Detention Center.

The Guangdong Higher People's Court conducted a second instance of the case in the Zengcheng District Court.

Two years ago, the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court conducted a review of this case. From September 2003 to December 2005, the defendant Zhang Weiping committed 9 crimes and participated in the trafficking of 9 children; the other 4 defendants were Zhou Rongping, Yang Chaoping, Liu Zhenghong, and Chen Shoubi. Co-participated in one of the cases, abducting and selling a child-Shen Cong, the son of Shen Junliang.

In December 2018, the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court made a first-instance verdict, and all five defendants were found guilty of child abduction and trafficking.

Zhang Weiping and Zhou Rongping were sentenced to death, Yang Chaoping and Liu Zhenghong were sentenced to life imprisonment, and Chen Shoubi was sentenced to ten years in prison.

The incidental civil lawsuit of Shen Junliang and his wife was rejected by the court.

After the verdict was pronounced in the first instance, the five defendants and Mr. and Mrs. Shen Junliang all appealed.

Some parents showed pictures of abducted children.

After the trial, The Paper interviewed Li Shuquan, Zhong Dingyou, Shen Junliang, and their attorney Liu Chang, who participated in the trial, to understand the general process of the trial.

The defendant in the original trial stated the reason for the appeal in court.

The four defendants except Zhang Weiping said that the first trial was too heavy and hoped that the court would consider confessing guilt and repentance and other circumstances and lighter punishment.

Only Zhang Weiping expressed no objection to the judgment of the first instance.

"I didn't appeal." Zhang Weiping said that he appealed because he heard the lawyer. "I now withdraw the appeal."

Because Zhang Weiping was sentenced to death in the first instance, the court hearing that day was still proceeding in accordance with his appeal procedure.

In court, all the four defendants except Zhang Weiping apologized to the victim's family.

"I apologize to Shen Junliang. Sorry, I did something wrong." Defendant Zhou Rongping said.

Another defendant, Liu Zhenghong, said that he realized that child trafficking hurts both the victim and his own family. "In the past few years, I have been living in pain every day."

During the trial, five defendants were questioned and answered questions about the case.

The defense lawyer did not provide new evidence.

The evidence presented by the court included a 200,000 yuan compensation bill submitted by the defendant Zhou Rongping's family to the court.

The prosecutor who appeared in court expressed the hope that the court of second instance would uphold the judgment of the first instance.

In the trial of the incidental civil lawsuit, Shen Junliang and his wife asked the defendants to compensate them for their 15-year child-finding expenses, as well as lost work expenses, schizophrenia treatment expenses, and mental comfort payments, totaling more than 4.81 million yuan.

According to Liu Chang, Shen Junliang's attorney, before the end of the trial, the presiding judge stated that the case will be submitted to the Guangdong Higher Court's adjudication committee for discussion and decision, and then a judgement will be pronounced.

This case was referred to by many media as the "Aunt Mei" case because the defendant claimed that the 9 abducted children all completed transactions through her.

However, she is not yet on the list of defendants in the case-the true identity of "Aunt Mei" is still an unsolved mystery.

Shen Junliang printed the portrait of "Aunt Mei" on the missing person notice.

Zhang Weiping insisted that "Aunt Mei" exists, and the victim's family appealed to "catch her"

During the trial on March 26, Zhang Weiping said when questioned that the clues such as "Aunt Mei" he confessed were true.

"I don't know how to paint." He said that the police had shown him a simulated portrait of "Aunt Mei", "not like that person."

Zhang Weiping, born in 1971, is a native of Suiyang, Guizhou, and a repeat offender of child trafficking.

The first-instance verdict of the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court showed that from 2003 to 2005, Zhang Weiping abducted 9 children in Zengcheng District, Huangpu District, and Boluo County, Huizhou City.

According to Zhang Weiping, before committing the crime, he would "step on spots" around the rental houses where migrant workers lived, looking for boys who were suitable to start.

After locking the target, he will contact "Aunt Mei" first, and then "Aunt Mei" will find a good buyer, and then he will take the child away when the adult is not paying attention.

Zhang Weiping said that after the kid is abducted, he will be sent to "Aunt Mei" as soon as possible.

According to his confession, the place where he and "Aunt Mei" met was "on the slope next to the Zengcheng Tenth Motorcade" many times.

Sometimes he would go to Zijin County, Heyuan City in a bus with "Aunt Mei", where he would trade with buyers.

Zijin County is located in the southeast of Heyuan City.

More than ten years ago, affected by the feudal concept of patriarchal patriarchy, some local couples with limited fertility often "adopted" out-of-town boys.

In fact, Zhang Weiping claimed that of the nine boys abducted and sold by him and "Aunt Mei" and others, seven were sold to Zijin County, and the other two were sold to Wuhua County, Meizhou City, and Huidong County, Huizhou City, near Zijin City. .

According to Zhang Weiping, for every transaction, the buyer will pay about 12,000 yuan for "support", and he will use 1,000 yuan as an "introduction fee" to pay "Aunt Mei".

Zhang Weiping said that in those years, sometimes "Aunt Mei" would contact him and ask him if he "has any children".

In the trial of the Guangdong High Court, Zhang Weiping’s defense lawyer believed that "Aunt Mei", who has not yet been brought back to the case, played a major role in this series of cases in dealing with abducted children. "Aunt Mei is one of the principal culprits in this case. ".

The 9 children who were abducted by Zhang Weiping, "Aunt Mei" and others 15 years ago have now recovered 5 of them, and 4 of them are still missing.

As the father of the kidnapped child, Li Shuquan, Zhong Dingyou and Shen Junliang all believe that the capture of "Aunt Mei" is the key to completely solving the mystery of the case.

"So I am here to ask the judiciary to pay attention to this matter," Shen Junliang said in the court. "The procuratorial organs are requested to strengthen supervision and the public security departments to strengthen investigations. We must catch Aunt Mei and bring back the other four children who were not found. ".

Li Shuquan and Zhong Dingyou, who have not yet found their sons, believe that Zhang Weiping has been dealing with "Aunt Mei" for a long time, and it will be an important witness for identifying "Aunt Mei". Do not execute it immediately.

"If he dies, Aunt Mei will be even harder to find." Li Shuquan sighed.

Who is "Aunt Mei"?

4 years after being confessed, the police have no breakthrough

How did Zhang Weiping and "Aunt Mei" meet and become accomplices in child trafficking?

In March 2016, Zhang Weiping, who had absconded for many years, was arrested by the police in Guiyang.

In January 2017, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department took the lead to organize public security agencies in Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Huizhou to establish a special task force for the Zhang Weiping series of child trafficking cases.

Faced with police interrogation, Zhang Weiping initially confessed that the child he had abducted was sold through a woman who was an "auntie at a mahjong hall near Xiangjiang West Road" in Zengcheng, Guangzhou.

However, the police did not find the "auntie" mentioned by Zhang Weiping through investigation.

Later, after several rounds of interrogation, one year after being arrested, Zhang Weiping confessed "Aunt Mei."

According to his account, the 2003 "Aunt Mei" was nearly 50 years old, was more than 1.5 meters tall, had short hair, and could speak the vernacular.

Zhang Weiping stated that after he was released after serving his sentence in 2003-he had been sentenced to six years in prison for child trafficking, he rented in Shitan Town, Zengcheng.

According to the introduction of a 70-80-year-old man in Gangbei Village, he met a 40-year-old "single stick" in Nandi Village, and then met "Aunt Mei" through the introduction of the "single stick".

"Bachelor" tells him that "Aunt Mei" is a "matchmaker" who is a matchmaker.

The police conducted investigations in Shitan Town, Zengcheng and other places.

However, due to the unknown identity information of the "old man and bachelor" provided by Zhang Weiping, little progress has been made for the time being.

In November 2017, the police handling the case of the Zengcheng District Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau told The Paper that the police had taken Zhang Weiping to find two elderly people who introduced him to "Aunt Mei". One of them has passed away and the other is in a state of dementia. Can't recall the personnel of that year.

Zhang Weiping remembered that he met with "Aunt Mei" several times. "Aunt Mei" walked out of the "slope at the intersection of the ten motorcade" in Zengcheng. Therefore, he estimated that "Aunt Mei" lived in Hewu Village.

In addition, from his analysis of calls made by "Aunt Mei" when calling others, her hometown should be Xinfeng County, Shaoguan City.

Legend has it that the "Aunt Mei" boyfriend lives in Huangsha Village.

Later, Zhang Weiping provided clues that when he and "Aunt Mei" were selling children in Zijin County, Heyuan City, he had visited her boyfriend's house with her in a village probably called "Huangsha".

Therefore, the police asked Zhang Weiping to lead the way to Huangsha Village, Shuidun Town, Zijin County.

Here, the police found Peng, who was suspected to be "Aunt Mei" boyfriend-this old man who was nearly 60 years old, usually mainly engaged in farming and "mud water work". Many years ago, he had a relationship with a man named "Pan Dongmei". Woman socializing.

According to Peng's recollection, around 2005, when his wife had passed away for many years, he was introduced to "Pan Dongmei".

In his impression, "Pan Dongmei" was about 50 years old at the time. She was less than 1.6 meters tall and was a bit fat; her hair was short, her face was "a bit square", and her cheekbones were slightly convex.

Peng still remembered that "Pan Dongmei" spoke a Hakka dialect, "but not the local Hakka dialect in Zijin".

"She said her name was Fan Dongmei. I didn't see her ID card. I don't know if it was her real name." Peng recalled. "Fan Dongmei" said that she was from Guangzhou and her husband died in a car accident.

Peng and "Pan Dongmei" have been dating for three or four years, "have been to my house more than a dozen times, and each time they stayed for one or two nights and left."

Peng said that after three or four years of dating, "Pan Dongmei" left, never came to his house again, and could not be contacted.

The police in charge of the case searched "Pan Dongmei" on the public security information network, but did not find a name that fits the age group of "Aunt Mei".

In June 2017, the Zengcheng District Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau announced a simulated portrait of "Aunt Mei", soliciting clues from the society.

The report stated that the woman nicknamed "Aunt Mei" was involved in multiple trafficking cases. Her real name is unknown. She is about 65 years old, 1.5 meters tall, speaks Cantonese and Hakka, and has been active in Zengcheng and Shaoguan Xinfeng for a long time.

Later, Shandong analog portrait expert Lin Yuhui also painted a portrait of "Aunt Mei".

On March 7, 2020, Li Guangri, deputy director of the Zengcheng District Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, introduced that the clues of "Aunt Mei" reported by the masses in many places in China in the past three years have been eliminated after verification.

"There is no evidence to directly prove that Aunt Mei exists." Li Guangri said at the time.

"The police's statement is also rigorous. The existing evidence about Aunt Mei is indeed indirect evidence." Liu Chang, the lawyer entrusted by the victim's father, Shen Junliang, told The Paper. After consulting the case file and participating in the trial, he felt that Zhang Weiping, Peng and others. The description of "Aunt Mei" can be mutually confirmed with the many circumstances of this series of child trafficking cases. "I personally believe that "Aunt Mei" is real."

On March 25, a policeman involved in the series of cases involving Zhang Weiping’s kidnapping and trafficking in children told Shen Junliang that the search for "Aunt Mei" was still "following", but no clue was found for the time being.

On March 26, after the second trial of the 9 children being abducted, The Paper contacted the Command Center of the Zengcheng District Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau to learn about the progress of the "Aunt Mei" case.

"We have been investigating, and the case-handling department has not yet made new breakthroughs." A staff member of the Zengcheng Public Security Bureau said that if the case progresses, it will be announced to the public in time.
