The governor of the Baalbek Hermel region in Lebanon, Bashir Khader, said that four Syrians (two women and two children) were found dead, on Friday, in eastern Lebanon, after they were considered missing.

He explained that he found the four frozen after a search operation carried out by the Lebanese civil defense, army and security forces.

"They died because of the bitter cold," Khader added on Twitter.

An investigation will be opened with the Lebanese person who was previously accompanied by them, regarding whether it was a human smuggling issue or not.

More than a million Syrian refugees live in Lebanon, who have fled their homes since the beginning of the conflict in their country in 2011.
