[Rural Revitalization] Sichuan Daofu "Compensation Education" School: Let the children who once dropped out of school regain learning opportunities
[Explanation] In Daofu County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, there is a school named "Daofu County Compensation Education Centralized Teaching Base". It was founded in October 2018 and is a special place in the local area.
Students were 13 to 15 years old when they entered school, but the average level of knowledge was only the first and second grades of elementary school-they had dropped out of school for various reasons or never enrolled.
In late March, a reporter from China News Agency visited the school.
The slogan "Knowledge changes fate, reading changes life" in front of the teaching building is very conspicuous.
Some of the classes in class are learning Chinese vocabulary and some reviewing Tibetan grammar.
According to the person in charge of the school, Daofu County gathered these Tibetan children in poverty alleviation and control of dropouts and received a three-year free "compensation education" to study Chinese, mathematics, Tibetan, and society in four courses.

The structure of the school’s students is very complex, and then divided into three categories, the first is problem teenagers, the second is their own physical disabilities, and the third is dropout teenagers.
After the students entered the campus, hierarchical teaching and diversified teaching were carried out.
[Explanation] In order to let the students stay, the school resorted to "18 martial arts". The whole school staff and the students ate, lived and had activities, gradually establishing a deep relationship between teachers and students.
Due to family poverty, Luorong Jinba dropped out of school when he was in the third grade of elementary school. Now he has been studying here for more than two years. He has excellent studies and is preparing for the entrance examination. He said his destiny is being changed by knowledge.

After dropping out of school, I can only work at home. I really want to go to school. The government asked us to go to school (teaching base), and then we now have a good foundation (learning). We are ready to apply for the middle school entrance examination. If possible, Go to high school to continue studying, and then grow up to see if I can be a teacher or something.

She recalled that in the first class, the students' weak language foundation made it difficult for her to teach. Now the students have answered her questions.

Our children, due to various reasons such as poverty in their families, have no way to enter the school. With the care and support of the government, they enter our school and cherish this learning opportunity very much. Many students work very hard. Very talented in learning.
In the past, they may just miss one such (learning) opportunity. If they can carry out compulsory education and study like normal children, I believe they can go into the far future.

To this end, Daofu County implements a seamless connection between "compensation education" and skill training, and has established a vocational skill training center in the school to teach vocational skills such as beauty salons, sewing, and fine arts.

The employment rate of these students who are controlled to drop out of school is 90%. Those who are unwilling to work, and indeed have patients at home to take care of, will be provided with public welfare positions to arrange employment.

He said that the skills training has given him a great skill in life, and he hopes to open his own barber shop in the future.
