AstraZeneca reduces the effectiveness of its coronavirus vaccine to 76% after the study in the US that questioned its first results

The pharmaceutical company

AstraZeneca

has lowered the effectiveness of its

coronavirus

vaccine from 79% to 76%

in the update of a study in the United States after the authorities in this country urged it to review the initial data.

The results, very similar to the originals, also indicate an effectiveness of 85% against symptomatic cases of

Covid-19

among those over 65 years of age and 100% against severe cases of the disease or hospitalizations.

The study involved

32,449 volunteers in the United States, Chile, and Peru

who received either two doses of the

AstraZeneca

vaccine

or a placebo.

In a statement,

AstraZeneca

Executive Vice President

Mene Pangalos stated that "the primary analysis is consistent with the previously published interim analysis and confirms that the

Covid-19

vaccine

is highly effective in adults, including those 65 years of age and older."
