Al Wathba Reserve is ready for the bird nesting season

The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi announced yesterday that the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve will be closed temporarily to visitors, starting next Wednesday, provided that the reserve will continue to receive its visitors in the winter season during the month of November.

The closure of the reserve came with the start of the bird nesting season, as the authority recorded the start of nesting flamingos in February, after they were nesting at the beginning of March, as nearly 1,000 nests have been recorded so far, indicating that the nesting season in the reserve will be seasonal. Is successful.

The authority revealed that five other species of birds had started nesting in the reserve, which included important types of migratory and resident birds such as: the Alexandrian plover, the Abu flirtatious, the red jowl, the collared plover, and the white-tailed catfish, which usually nest on land near roads and around lakes.

“To ensure that the nesting season continues with success, the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve will be closed as part of our commitment to preserve the bird species and biodiversity that the reserve houses,” said Acting Executive Director of the terrestrial and marine biodiversity sector at the authority, Ahmed Al Hashemi.

Al Wathba Wetland Reserve has proven to be very popular, with more than 17,000 visitors since its opening to visitors last January, and it is expected that the total number of the season will reach more than 20,000 visitors, as the site has been receiving visitors for two days. Per week, as this is the highest number of visitors to the reserve since the public was allowed to visit it in 2014.
