Li, a post-90s man who worked as a "huo Lala" driver in Chengdu and other places, returned to his hometown in Ya'an, Sichuan. After "learning" the tomb-robbing instructional video in the QQ group, he looked for the tombs everywhere, hoping to dig for money.

Unexpectedly, during the excavation of an ancient tomb, the tombstone fell down. The stone bars weighing more than a hundred kilograms overwhelmed him, causing multiple fractures in his waist and legs, costing more than 180,000 yuan for medical expenses, and possibly even becoming disabled.

On March 24, the Chengdu Commercial Daily-Red Star News reporter learned that Li was sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment of 1 year and 6 months and fined RMB 5,000 for the crime of robbery and excavation of ancient tombs.

Watch the tomb video

He started "robbing the tomb to get rich" and crooked his mind

Li was lying on the bed at home, the lumbar spine that was smashed by the tombstone and the open fractured leg had just been operated on, and he groaned in pain when he moved a little.

When I first saw Li, Wu Liu, a policeman from the Wawushan Police Station, couldn't believe that the thin Li was involved in the tomb robbery.

Li is a native of Ya'an, Sichuan. Born in 1990, he went out to work before finishing high school. Before the incident, he worked as a "huo Lala" driver in Chengdu and other places.

The police asked a few words, and Li did not admit it at first, but a few questions from the police left him speechless, and multiple evidence showed that Li could not deny him.

In March 2020, Li returned to his hometown of Ya'an, who was working as a "cargo-la-la" driver in Chengdu and other places, and joined some QQ hobby groups that talk about ancient coins and antiques.

Li found that there were many tomb robbing videos in the group. The moment he watched the video, he seemed to have opened the "tomb robbing notes."

Listening to the "to get rich and learn to steal the tomb" promoted in the video, plus his own financial constraints, Li had the idea of stealing the tomb and started walking around looking for the tomb.

Finally, on May 25, 2020, Li found an ancient tomb while stepping on a spot in Hongya County, Meishan City.

Robbery failed

But he was hit by a tombstone and broke multiple fractures

According to the police, at 6 p.m. on May 25, 2020, Li brought a crowbar, jack, steel pipe, flashlight and other tools for committing crimes, and once again came to the tomb on Yanu Lake, pretending to be a tourist fishing by the lake. Waiting for the opportunity to rob the tomb.

At 11 o'clock that night, Li took advantage of the darkness to pry open the door of the tomb and enter the tomb to hunt for treasure.

Unexpectedly, when the fourth tomb was robbed, there was a bang, and the stone strip-shaped carving placed directly above the tomb fell down, and Li was pressed underneath, unable to move.

It was not until he was struggling to crawl out from under a stone weighing more than a hundred kilograms, only to find that he had multiple fractures in his waist and legs and was unable to walk.

Knowing that the tomb robbery was illegal, the injured Li didn't dare to speak up, so he could only endure the pain, call his brother for help, and was sent to a hospital in Ya'an for treatment.

Li has a lumbar spine fracture and an open fracture of his leg.

More than 180,000 yuan was spent on medical expenses, and he may even be disabled.

Unable to move

The police carried him to identify the scene

After the incident, on June 2, 2020, local villagers discovered that their ancestral tomb had been dug and immediately reported the incident to the local police station.

Police Wu Liuhan introduced that the Hongya police quickly launched an outlying investigation after receiving a report from the villagers.

Through unremitting efforts, Li was finally found.

After arriving in the case, Li confessed the facts of the crime truthfully.

At this time, even though Li had finished the operation, he could hardly move, and he couldn't even turn himself over.

When identifying the scene, due to the remote location and rugged mountain roads, Li had not recovered from his injuries and could only lie on a stretcher. Seven or eight people including police and medical personnel took turns to carry him and completed the identification of the scene.

The court of Hongya County, Meishan City found out that among the four tombs that Li had stolen and excavated, one was built in the third year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty and the other was built in the year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty. They belong to a certain degree of history, art, and science. Ancient tombs of value.

The court sentenced the defendant Li to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment for stealing ancient tombs and fined RMB 5,000.

After the sentence was pronounced, Li said in court that he would not appeal.
