Stages La Princesa Leonor, a debut with an eye on the swearing in of the Constitution
Princess Leonor has taken this Wednesday, March 24, one more step in her training as Heiress.
The daughter of Felipe VI has presided over her first solo act, a debut with which she
begins to have her own agenda
and that opens a new stage in her life as Princess that will culminate in 2023, when the Constitution swears.
The Kings have chosen a very significant commitment for Doña Leonor, related to
culture and Hispanicism
: the inauguration of the commemorative acts of the 30th anniversary of the Instituto Cervantes.
The chosen place, the headquarters of Cervantes, has not been left to chance, as it was the same place where the Princess made her first public reading of the Constitution on October 31, 2018.
At twelve o'clock in the morning, the Princess arrived at the Cervantes in an official car,
accompanied by Jaime Alfonsín,
head of the Casa del Rey.
Doña Leonor has received the popular warmth of
several people
who encouraged her in this first solo engagement.
Once inside, the Princess
has been received
by the Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, and by Luis García Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute and who has been in charge of guiding her on the visit.
They have shown him the
digitization projects of
different works in co-official languages and have toured the facilities.

The moment with the most symbolism has come when Doña Leonor has entered
the Caja de las Letras.
There, in box 2021, located between those of
Miguel Delibes
and
Severo Ochoa
, he has deposited two books.
The chosen ones have been the Constitution that he read on October 31, 2018 and the copy of
Don Quixote
with which he participated on April 23 on Book Day.
Then Spain was still confined and for the princess it was her first act in a pandemic.
After the intervention of
Carmen Noguero,
general secretary of the Cervantes Institute, the Princess
asked
the person in charge of the digitization of the institution, asking about the status of the workers of the offices that the Institute has abroad and that, due to the pandemic, they have not been able to
return to Spain to see their relatives.
As a souvenir of the visit, which lasted one hour, the Princess received three books published in different Spanish languages.
Next, the heiress has toured an
exhibition
located in the lobby of the upper floor of some works chosen for the occasion.
At the exit of the building, crowds of citizens who were gathered applauded the Princess with shouts of "Long live the Princess" and "Long live the King."
Leonor greeted them and thanked them for the cheers.
After saying goodbye to Carmen Calvo and Luis García Montero with a wave of her hand on her heart, Doña Leonor left in the official car.
The Instituto Cervantes was founded in 1991 by the government then headed by Felipe González.
and attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During these 30 years, its mission has been to promote and manage the learning of the Spanish language abroad through direct teaching and the systematization and certification of teaching.
From the beginning, Cervantes promoted the language through a cultural agenda that rotates through its 75 centers spread across 44 countries around the world.
