"I create my Twttr account".

Fifteen years ago, to the day, Jack Dorsey, the boss of Twitter, published with this somewhat banal message the first "tweet" in the history of the social network.

This short text, written on March 21, 2006, marked the debut of the platform to more than 190 million daily users, popular with political and economic decision-makers as well as journalists.

A key player in social networks

In fifteen years, Twitter has become a key player in social networks, not without some controversy.

Most recently, the network surprised in January by deleting the 88 million subscriber account of Donald Trump, the US president's main communication tool, for repeated incitement to violence, after supporters invaded the Capitol. of the Republican billionaire.

The exclusion of the Head of State had been hailed as much as denounced, a sign of the complex balance between neutrality, defense of freedom of expression, and moderation with which these platforms must deal.

The first tweet on sale

Jack Dorsey had defended his decision but admitted that it was a "failure" and set a "dangerous" precedent.

In early March, the boss of the social network, based in San Francisco, announced the sale of this very first tweet, via a link to the “Valuables” site, where fans can make an offer.

Buying a tweet means acquiring "a digital certificate of the tweet, unique because it was signed and verified by the creator," the tweet auction site explains - like an autograph.

Some $ 2.5 million was offered for this message on Sunday.
