In February this year, Östermalm's district committee decided that a memorial for the deceased Tim Bergling would be erected at his hometown in Östermalm.
Recently, the Sweden Democrats came up with their own proposal for a memorial;
a statue in the middle of Östermalmstorg.
- I think it is a frivolous proposal based on the fact that Östermalm's district committee decided to create a memorial site a month and a half ago.
It is a proposal that goes directly against the decision that has already been made, says Andréa Hedin, Östermalm's district committee chair (M).
"Should be a quiet place for reflection"
She has been in contact with the artist's family for six months and believes that the memorial should be a quiet place for reflection, located in a green area that honors the artist but also other people who have fallen victim to mental illness.
In addition, she believes that the proposal is also not feasible as it must be applied for a certain permit to build on Östermalmstorg.
- The Sweden Democrats are well aware that the district committee does not have this area, if it is the case that you seriously want a memorial site on the area that they propose, then you must submit the proposal to the traffic committee that owns the site, and it has not done so, she says.
The family responds to the proposal
Avicii's father, Klas Bergling, believes that the proposal has not been discussed with the family.
“We are very honored that the district committee has chosen to make a decision to create a memorial site for Tim.
We want there to be an area in one of the parks that has meant a lot during Tim's upbringing.
We think it would be very appreciated and fantastically nice.
We have not heard of the proposal for Östermalmstorg before and have no participation in it either ”.
