Shahira Al-Banna (22 years old) resorted to practicing karate to defeat her illness and defeat the bullying she is frequently exposed to, due to her disability and her brothers, who suffer from various diseases, including paralysis, so she was able thanks to this to enhance her self-confidence, to become the first girl with Down syndrome to join the ranks This sport, where you exercise three days a week, with a team of all normal members.

"Emirates Today" met the girl (famous) inside the Jerusalem hall, wearing a white sports suit and yellow belt, while she was carrying out all sports movements with great mastery.

(Shahira) says in separate words that she speaks with great difficulty: “I participated in the karate team to become strong, and represent my country Palestine in the countries of the world.” Her mother, Umm Ahmad al-Banna, indicates that Shahira also participates in the basketball team at Al-Jazeera Sports Club, where she won many championships , In this sport.

And the martial arts instructor at Al-Mashtal Sports Club, Hassan Al-Rahi, says:

“Shahira al-Banna is the first girl with Down Syndrome in the Gaza Strip to participate in the karate folk martial arts team.”

He added that (Shahira) has mastered the fundamentals of karate with a strong will, and this heralds a brilliant future for her in this sporting field, as she wants to communicate to everyone that disability, bullying society and its rude outlook are all difficult challenges, but they do not stop her passion, nor prevent her from achieving her dream.
