"Our story begins with the story of the shield"

At the end of this feature film, there are not many people left among the Avengers: Tony Stark, Vision and Natasha Romanoff are dead, Wanda is struggling to cope with her grief and Steve Rogers has retired, bequeathing his shield to Sam. Wilson.

The true Falcon seems reluctant to take up the torch ... Who will don the costume of Captain America is the question that the series will have to answer.

"Our story begins with the story of the shield," announces director Kari Skogland in the production notes.

“Sam considers the shield to be a symbol of the United States, and he has a hard time imagining that a black person can represent the country even though he does not feel represented,” explains Anthony Mackie in the same notes.

“Bucky believes Sam is the rightful heir, the one Steve chose, and he wants things to go the way Steve wanted.

So, as soon as Sam emits the slightest doubt, it immediately puts them on the wrong foot, ”reacts Sebastian Stan.

A “buddy cop movies” style duo

Sam and Bucky know each other from their mutual friend Steve Rogers, but they're not good friends either.

“They are like fire and ice.

Sam is impulsive, Bucky more reflective, ”summarizes chief writer Malcolm Spellman.

“You can't find two people more opposed to each other,” laughs Anthony Mackie in a virtual conference

20 Minutes

attended.

“But there is mutual respect,” he adds.

“We have a 'buddy cop movies' type relationship,” Kari Skogland analyzes.

The series intends to explore all the "tones" that the genre allows: "You can go from a creaky film like

48 hours

to a comedy like

Rush Hour,

but between the two, there is the first

Lethal Weapon

and the first

Bad Boys.

 Â», Explains Malcolm Spellman.

"Zooming in on his quest for identity"

The rather grim first episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier explores the traumas of characters in search of identity, now that they have returned from the Blip, whom the world has changed in their absence.

What really happens to a country's infrastructure when billions of people reappear after five years?

Buckie thus appears for the first time in the middle of a therapy session: “We zoom in on his quest for identity and on how he accepts his past,” says Sebastian Stan.

And Bucky seems to have a hard time atoning for the violence he has inflicted over the decades.

The series will allow Falcon fans to "immerse themselves in its history, its family and its environment," promises Anthony Mackie.

Our two heroes, who served as soldiers, both suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

“It's one of the things that brings them together,” says Sebastian Stan.

"I approached the series like a film"

The opening action scene showcases the Falcon wingsuit better than any movie so far!

She proves the staging talent of seasoned television director Kari Skogland.

“I approached the series like a movie.

We were making a six-hour film, ”she says.

“We kept saying to ourselves, 'If we're doing a series with the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we have to at least start with the best action scene we've ever seen.'

We put all our blood, all our sweat and all our tears into it, ”adds Kevin Feige, executive producer of the series, president of Marvel Studios and artistic director of Marvel.

And the action, "you'll see a lot more over the course of the series," he promised.

Because naturally, our two superheroes will be reunited to fight against old ones (Zemo, still played by Daniel Bruhl) but also new threats… "They are immersed in events which will save the world", underlines Kari Skogland.

"A big impact on the MCU"

Less enigmatic and confusing than

WandaVision

, the first episode and the unveiled extracts of

Falcon and the Winter Soldier

take up the classic recipe of the successful films of the saga: a clever mix of action, humor and emotion. , all mixed with a few surprise appearances like that of Colonel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle).

“I can't say more, but there will still be some very good surprises,” announces Malcolm Spellman.

No doubt the theories will still flourish.

"Bucky and Sam are essential to the MCU, they could and should have a big impact on the MCU," tease Kevin Feige, who promotes "massive implications for the stories we will tell in the future."

And to invite the spectators to seek the answers in the original material: "We are inspired by their biography in the comics".

In short,

Falcon and the Winter Soldier

promises to be a solid adventure.

Pure Marvel, but in series.
