On Monday, the Vatican, and thus the Catholic Church, announced that one will not bless same-sex marriage because God "does not bless sin."
In a post on Twitter, Elton John writes that the Vatican is engaged in hypocrisy:
"How can the Vatican refuse to bless same-sex marriages because they are 'sin', and at the same time invest millions in Rocketman - a film that celebrates the happiness of my marriage to David?"
he writes, referring to David Furnish, whom he married in 2005.
Invested in Rocketman
The film Rocketman (2019) is about Elton John's upbringing, breakthrough as an artist and about how he came out as a homosexual.
The Vatican's investments in Rocketman have been known since 2019, when a review by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera revealed documents showing that the Vatican had invested money in a fund that helped finance Rocketman with several million euros, reports The Guardian.
The Vatican has so far not responded to the criticism, but has for some time now been investigating its investments.
