Bedbugs have been invading more and more homes in Île-de-France in recent years.

A study published on the

Badbugs.fr

website

,

in collaboration with Ipsos, reveals that these insects have affected 1.3 million inhabitants of this region since 2016, reports

Le Parisien

.

“This figure is monstrous, it means that one in ten inhabitants has been infested by bedbugs in the past five years.

The Paris region is the most affected in France with 29% of people infested, ”said Nicolas Roux de Bézieux, co-founder of the site which allows appointments to be made to fight against harmful insects.

7% of French people affected since 2016

In 2020, nearly 345,000 Ile-de-France residents were victims of these little animals which measure between 4 and 7 millimeters in length.

Nationally, 7% of the population has been confronted with this problem since 2016.

Bed bugs infiltrate all homes, regardless of the socio-professional category or the age of the occupants.

The main causes of propagation are travel (44%), then social interactions (30%), moves (20%) but also second-hand purchases (10%).

According to professionals, this exponential spread over the past four years is notably due to the ban of a very powerful insecticide against bedbugs, which had even succeeded in eradicating this insect in the 1950s. Today, the households affected must choose between different treatments, the cost of which can vary from 400 to 2,000 euros for an apartment of about 50 square meters.
