The government "will continue to support" OVHcloud, the French cloud group (cloud computing) whose data center burned down last week with potentially serious consequences for some customers, he said on Tuesday.

“The government is confident in the ability of OVHcloud to demonstrate its resilience,” Olivia Grégoire, Secretary of State to the Minister of the Economy and Finance, told the National Assembly.

A flagship of French tech

"We must say the commitment of Octave Klaba", the founder and president of the group, "that we will continue to support", she added.

"We are talking about a French, European, even world champion, who teases his American competitors with force," she also indicated.

One of OVHcloud's four data centers on its Strasbourg site was destroyed by fire on Wednesday, and another seriously damaged, in an extremely rare disaster for establishments of this type.

OVHcloud, founded in 1999 by Octave Klaba is a flagship of French tech and one of the few European providers of “cloud” services, a sector dominated by American and Chinese players.

Just before an IPO

The group had just announced that it was preparing to go public, the ultimate recognition for a tech company.

Many websites and business couriers were disrupted by the fire.

Some OVHCloud customers have permanently lost their data, but the exact extent of the damage can only be measured as the servers at the Strasbourg site are restarted, which have been completely shut down for the moment.

As such, Olivia Grégoire confirmed that with regard to the State, "some sites had been impacted", but "that everything was back to normal within 24 hours", thanks in particular to the site redundancy policy. of data processing required by the IT departments of the State services.

A restart from March 22

"The protection of information systems is guaranteed by each state IT department," she said.

For its part, OVHcloud announced on Tuesday that the restart should begin on Monday, March 22.

“The restart will be done room by room, aisle by aisle and bay by bay,” the company said.
