The pressure from the Covid-19 epidemic on resuscitation services continued to increase on Tuesday, with 20 more patients than the day before and again more than 400 new admissions in 24 hours, according to Public Health France.

In total, 4,239 patients infected with the coronavirus were in intensive care in French hospitals on Tuesday, the highest since the end of November 2020. Among them, 435 made their entry there in 24 hours, after already 401 the day before.

A quarter of intensive care patients are in Ile-de-France

More than a quarter of these intensive care patients (1,177) are hospitalized in Ile-de-France where the particularly worrying situation is pushing the health authorities to organize patient transfers to other regions.

The situation is also tense in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and in Hauts-de-France, regions which respectively have 511 and 526 patients in intensive care.

With 2,005 new hospitalizations in 24 hours across the country, there are now 25,492 Covid patients in hospitals in France, against 25,469 on Monday.

320 new deaths in hospital in 24 hours, 94 in nursing homes

320 new deaths were recorded in hospital in 24 hours, and 94 in nursing homes and medico-social establishments (EMS) since the last update on Wednesday.

In total, 91,170 Covid patients have died since the start of the epidemic, including 65,765 in hospital and 25,405 in nursing homes and nursing homes.

Vaccinations continued to progress, despite the suspension of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday, pending a review by the European Medicines Agency of possible adverse effects associated with this vaccine.
