Several dozen patients suffering from the coronavirus will be transferred from the resuscitation services of Ile-de-France to New Aquitaine.

But the hospitals in the region have only a "limited" capacity to relieve the Ile-de-France establishments, warns the Bordeaux University Hospital.

The government is counting on patient transfers to relieve the hospitals in Ile-de-France, saturated by the Covid-19.

The first transfers of resuscitation patients took place Monday morning, a little less than ten, before a hundred in total in the coming days.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine is thus preparing to welcome 24 to 48 patients in its intensive care units by the end of the week.

But the hospitals in the region have only a limited capacity, warns on Europe 1 an official of the Bordeaux University Hospital.

"Some patients will not be able to have major surgeries operated on"

"The capacities of the Bordeaux University Hospital in terms of resuscitation are still relatively limited, since 90% of the places are occupied", warns Doctor Laurent Petit, who heads the surgical intensive care unit of the Bordeaux University Hospital.

"In surgical intensive care we will start to deprogram heavy interventions. There will be a penalty for certain patients who will not be able to have major surgeries operated on. For the moment, this is something that will be studied and discussed in council. crisis. We will adapt to what will be decided, "he assures us.

Patients will be distributed throughout the region

The distribution of these Ile-de-France patients will be done throughout the region.

"If there is no more room or if the Bordeaux University Hospital is in potential saturation, before going towards programming, we will ask private operators and peripheral health establishments to welcome patients. This will allow each health establishment to do its job in good conditions, "insists Olivier Serre, from the management of ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The next health transfers in New Aquitaine will be by train, with medical TGVs.

The operation should make it possible to mitigate the burden suffered by caregivers in Ile-de-France hospitals, where the total initial capacities were reached with more than 1,100 Covid-19 patients in shifts on Sunday.
