The historical drama "Dear Comrades!" By Andrei Konchalovsky, previously nominated by Russia for the award as the best film in a foreign language, was not nominated for the award.

The leader in the number of nominations this year was the biographical drama "Munk" by David Fincher, starring Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfred.

The film tells the story of the creation of Orson Welles' cult film Citizen Kane.

In the center of the plot is the American journalist, screenwriter and producer Herman Mankiewicz, who worked on the script for the future film at the request of the director.

The film is nominated for an Oscar in ten categories, including the main one - Best Film.

Also "Munk" was presented in the nominations "Best Director", "Best Actor", "Best Supporting Actress", "Best Film Score", "Best Sound", "Best Costume Design", "Best Cinematography", "Best Makeup and Hair" and "Best Production Designer".

Along with "Monk", the films "Minari" by Lee Isaac Chan, "Land of the Nomads" by Chloe Zhao and "Girl of Hope" by Emirald Fennel will compete for the victory in the main nomination, at the same time presented in the category "Best Director".

Other contenders for the grand prize include Florian Zeller's Father, Shaka King's Judas and the Black Messiah, Darius Marder's The Sound of Metal, and Aaron Sorkin's Chicago Seven Trial.

The award for Best Director may also go to Danish director Thomas Winterberg, who directed the dramedy "One More Time", which previously received four Academy Awards and a Golden Globe nomination.

The picture with Madse Mikkelsen in the title role claims to be another statuette - as the best film in a foreign language.

The competition for the project will be made by films "The Best Time" (Zeng Guoxiang, Hong Kong), "The Team" (Alexander Nanau, Romania), "The Man Who Sold His Skin" (Kauter Ben Chania, Tunisia) and "Where are you going, Aida?"

(Jasmila Zbanic, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Academicians also noted the work of the screenwriters of the films "Judas and the Black Messiah", "Minari", "The Girl with Hope", "Sounds of Metal" and "The Trial of the Chicago Seven".

They were nominated for the prize for the best original script, and the authors of the scripts for the films Borat 2, Father, Land of the Nomads, One Night in Miami and The White Tiger were nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay.

Oscars for Best Actor may go to Gary Oldman (Munk), Reese Ahmed (The Sound of Metal), Anthony Hopkins (Father), Stephen Yan (Minari) or Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey: Mother blues ", posthumously).

From the leading female roles, the members of the American Film Academy singled out Viola Davis ("Ma Rainey: Mother of the Blues"), Andra Day ("United States vs. Billie Holiday"), Vanessa Kirby ("Fragments of a Woman"), Frances McDormand ("The Land of the Nomads") and Carey Mulligan ("The Promising Girl").
