A young Malian threatened with expulsion by the Haute-Loire prefecture was released Friday evening from the administrative detention center where he had been transferred on Tuesday, we learned this Saturday from his host family.

"The Lyon Court of Appeal ordered the release of Madama, whom we brought home last night," said Eric Durupt, the teacher who, with his partner, has been staying for more than two years in the region of Puy-en-Velay Madama Diawara, aged 19.

The young man is however under house arrest by the prefecture and must report every day to the gendarmerie, according to a representative of the Education Without Borders network of Haute-Loire, Christine Chevalier.

Next Tuesday, an appeal against the obligation to leave French territory which was taken against him by the prefect of Haute-Loire, Eric Etienne, must be examined by the administrative court of Lyon, said Eric Durupt.

Doubt about the authenticity of the birth certificate

Welcomed in December 2018 by the couple after crossing the Mediterranean and the Alps to Briançon, the young man was educated and then completed a first internship with a couple of breeders who offered him an apprenticeship contract.

But the prefecture of Haute-Loire refuses to issue him a residence permit, questioning the authenticity of his birth certificate.

On Tuesday, he was taken into custody for “using false documents” after a summons by the Air and Border police in Gerzat (Puy-de-Dôme) then taken to the administrative detention center in Lyon.

A request against his placement in detention was rejected Thursday.

The young man had appealed.

The support committee for Madama Diawara, whose petition has received some 36,000 signatures, is organizing a rally this Saturday on the main square of Puy-en-Velay, near the prefecture.
