In celebration of Emirati Children's Day, which falls on March 15th, Sharjah Child-Friendly Office, affiliated to the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, launched a promotional campaign on social media sites, to encourage children and adolescents to celebrate this occasion, through an interactive competition on "the child's right to play."

The state’s celebrations of the Emirati Child’s Day this year come under the slogan: “The Right to Play”, as it looks forward to the day being an occasion to raise awareness of the importance of play as one of the basic needs of children, in order to achieve compliance with the provisions stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Child Rights Law in the UAE. (Wadima law).

The office indicated that the aim of launching the competition is to encourage children, adolescents and youth in the UAE to share their understanding and experience of playing, by filming and publishing innovative and creative videos, as the office continues to receive entries until the 31st of this month.

The office has allocated prizes to the contest winners, who will be chosen according to their commitment to the conditions.

The Executive Director of Sharjah Child-Friendly Office, Dr. Hessa Khalfan Al-Ghazal, said, “The rights of the child are numerous and indivisible, and children cannot be given some of their rights and deprived of others, and play is one of the basic rights that every child should have. Play affects the child's physical development. It is one of the basic mechanisms for a child to acquire knowledge and awareness of his surroundings, to recognize his talents and to enhance his skills in communication, language acquisition, and other skills.

On what Sharjah has achieved in terms of promoting children's rights, Dr. Hessa added: “We have succeeded in obtaining the accreditation of Sharjah in 2018 as a friendly city for children and adolescents, after it fulfilled the conditions of the international organization to meet, define and promote children's rights, as part of its global initiative (Child-Friendly Cities). And adolescents), which motivates us to make more efforts to develop child rights practices, and to ensure their sustainability in order to achieve greater achievements than we were before.

As for the conditions for participation in the competition, they require parental approval, a 30-second video shoot, following up with the Sharjah Child-Friendly Office account (@sharjahchildfriendly), and then posting the video on the TikTok application, using the approved hashtags to celebrate the Emirati Children's Day this year.
