The hero as a spectator in the story

"Cumming 2 America" ... Eddie Murphy from dazzling to repetition

picture

In a situation that was never imagined only five years ago, and we will not say a decade ago, we are moving from "Netflix" to "Amazon" and its original movie America 2 Coming, to come to America, and by placing the number (2) in the middle of the title, it is clear that it is a reference to part two.

Cinemas are in an unenviable position, and original Internet movies are booming. To your knowledge, this movie is shown in American theaters, and because the scales have been reversed, no financial return is expected from it, because its original platform is "Prime Video" affiliated with "Amazon" studios and not cinema.

To be balanced or fair with the movie, it is neither bad nor hardly acceptable.

Before we go into details, two points should be mentioned: The first is that the original film with the exact same title, but using the word to and not the number, in 1988, was very successful and fun at a time when comedy lived by different standards.

The second point is that the second parts, which are many years apart from the original films, specifically 33 years in the case of this film, rarely achieve similar success as the original.

This movie is not bad thanks to its protagonist Eddie Murphy, but that does not prevent the feeling that the film as a whole is old or a bit inappropriate, and of course it is absolutely unnecessary.

The question: “If we watch the original movie now, will we laugh and accept the jokes, or will we feel embarrassed?”

Note that the jokes of the eighties are harsh compared to today due to the wave of political corrections.

Whatever was acceptable in mainstream comedy in 1988 is no longer so today.

During the making of the second part, it appears that Murphy wanted to highlight changes related to the film’s ideas, for example, the attack on the man’s regime in the fictional African state of Zamunda in the film.

And he does this by indicating that women can sometimes rule better than men.

This kind of enlightenment, if the name is correct, was not acceptable in the 1980s or the decades preceding it.

An interesting aspect of the original film was the story of a man's actions outside his familiar environment, and the whole comedy was written about the contradictions of this idea.

The original movie in particular was taking some of its ideas from the success of Murphy's 1983 movie "Trading Places". Both films were directed by John Landis himself.

The other film from which the original "Coming to America" drew some ideas was Crocodile Dundee in 1986 about an Australian who rescues an American journalist from a crocodile and rewards him by inviting him to New York and they fall in love.

The second part recycles some elements of the original film by placing new actors in important roles, which is what many films do without a new introduction.

This part includes the same idea of "love triumphs in the end."

The presence of several sub-stories serving older actors caused chaos in the script, and the result is that the romance in the movie only had two scenes, before its parties fell madly in love!

The movie begins with Prince Achim (Murphy) preparing to rule as king.

His father, King Jaffe (James Earl Jones with a Beautiful Look, Age 90) on his deathbed.

After the funeral he faces his first crisis: General Easy (Wesley Snipes), a military commander from Nexdoria, threatening an invasion if the two countries do not unite with marriage.

The general wants to propose to his daughter Boboto (Tiana Teller) to Akim's illegitimate son in the United States, or to his son Eddie to Princess Mika (Kiki Lin), Akim's eldest daughter.

The illegitimate son is the link between the two films, according to the story here, that Prince Akeem established an illegal relationship in New York in the events of the original movie, while he was drugged, and the result was that the girl gave birth to a son.

Akim decides to travel to New York with his loyal assistant Simi (Arsenio Hall), and bring his missing son, Laville Jenson (Jermaine Fuller), and make him crown prince.

Lavelle arrives at Zamunda and the verse turns, in the first movie Akim was the stranger in America, but here his son and mother Mary (Leslie Jones) and his uncle Reim (Tracy Morgan) are strangers in Zamonda.

Although Lavelle was drawn to power and infatuated with the general's daughter, he fell in love with Mermby (Numzamo Mbatha) the court maid.

Is this movie funny?

little bit.

But the most important question is is this a Murphy movie?

The answer is no, Murphy is a spectator here, but he breathes his energy when he covers the layers of mick and wears a wig to take on the role of singer Randy Watson, who appeared in the original, a scene that is nothing more than a joke.

In the nineties, Murphy dazzled us by assuming the characters of an entire family himself, he is the grandfather, grandmother, mother, father and son, and every character needs heavy layers of makeup, but today he does it again here, but the dazzle of the nineties has become a repetition today.

The director of the film, Craig Brewer, collaborated with Murphy in the previous film, "Dolmate is My Name", in which he says in full: "This is an integral part of the original and is not without it, and he has the right to do so, but this at the same time indicates that the second part lacks originality and is of average level." At its best, it will not revive the stalled career of Murphy for nearly 20 years.

Murphy is no stranger to a franchise, which is the manufacture of multiple parts in cinema. He has "48 Hours", "Beverly Hills Police", "The Crazy Professor", "Doctor Dolittle", "Partner" and "Cumming to America". But the latter weakened the Franchise and from Difficult to suggest this movie to anyone.

• This movie is not bad thanks to Eddie Murphy, but that does not prevent the feeling that the film as a whole is old or inappropriate.

• The romance in the movie had only two scenes, before its parties fell madly in love!

• The presence of several sub-stories serving older actors, wreaked havoc on the script.
