It is currently under review by the European Medicines Agency.

Still not authorized in France, the Russian vaccine against the Covid-19 Sputnik V could yet be delivered en masse to Nice, said the mayor of the city on Friday where the pressure in hospitals remains very strong.

“I am able to quickly have several tens of thousands of doses available for the metropolis.

And I ask the health authorities to give me permission, ”explained Christian Estrosi, interviewed by radio France Bleu Azur.

Thanks to "the international relations that the city maintains"

Developed by Russia, Sputnik V, a viral vector vaccine, is said to be 91.6% effective.

It is approved according to its designers in 48 countries, the latest being Kenya and Morocco this week.

Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have already authorized it without waiting for the opinion of the European Medicines Agency.

The mayor of Nice did not give more details but his entourage explains this arrival of vaccines could be done thanks to "the international relations that the city maintains".

In April 2020, at the start of the pandemic, Christian Estrosi had obtained from a “generous sponsor” the financing of the transport, by plane, of 25 tons of medical equipment.

He finally revealed in December that it was a couple of Russian oligarchs, Alexei and Svetlana Kouzmitchev, whose child had been treated in the capital of the Riviera.
