In the main plant of the Tönnies meat company in Rheda-Wiedenbrück (Gütersloh district), an employee is said to have fatally injured a colleague on Friday morning.
According to dpa information, the injured died in the hospital.
The Bielefeld police set up a homicide squad, but initially gave no information on the facts.
According to Tönnies company spokesman André Vielstädte, a 20-year-old employee attacked a colleague (33) with a knife in the incident.
"Despite immediate first aid measures, the employee died in the hospital," said Vielstädte.
The incident occurred in part of the dismantling.
The alleged perpetrator and the victim are Romanian citizens.
The suspect was arrested.
