Among other things, users have reported that at the time of login they have had to confirm that they are account holders, via an email or text message that is sent out.

"This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are allowed to do so," a Netflix representative told Australian ABC News.

According to CNN, this is currently just a test system, and it is unclear if it will be rolled out to all users.

Seen between the fingers

Netflix has gone like the train during the pandemic, and has more than 200 million users.

The company has previously to a large extent also seen between the fingers on sharing passwords.

According to the market research company Magid, a third of the users in a survey in February this year state that they have ever shared a password with a person outside their own household.

As competition from challengers such as Disney plus and Amazon Prime, as well as a number of other services, increases, there are major financial incentives for Netflix to try to convert free viewers into paying customers.
