While fans are wondering if season 17 of
Grey's Anatomy
will be the last, the legendary Shonda Rhimes show made its return this Thursday on ABC after the winter break with an explosive episode.
Here is everything you need to know about this new season currently being broadcast on ABC (and which should arrive on TF1 in the coming months), and on this twist that has pissed off fans.
Will season 17 be the last season?
Season 17 may well be the last.
Negotiations between ABC and Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Gray, for future seasons are still ongoing.
In 2017, the actress fought to renegotiate her salary, becoming the highest paid actress for a television series.
"I am preparing for a season and a final that could work as well as a final season that as a final standard, said Krista Vernoff the showrunneuse of
Gray's Anatomy
to
The Hollywood Reporter.
I anticipate both eventualities even though it's complicated and not ideal.
"
Krista Vernoff hopes ABC will inform her of the fate of
Grey's Anatomy
as soon as possible: "I told them I had to know before I made the finale".
And to explain: "Either I make a conclusion, or I build something that will allow me to have a cliffhanger, but also a common thread for the next season.

She is none other than the big sister of Debbie Allen, aka Catherine Avery, the mother of Jackson (Jesse William).
"My sister, Phylicia Rashad, will appear in episode 12 and bring true power, humor and grace in a role that strikes a chord, that of the voice of the people," Debbie Allen told

An investigation that turned into a tragedy when DeLuca was stabbed by a stranger.
The story continued in episode 7 of season 17 of
Grey's Anatomy
when Carina and the firefighters arrived at the hospital with DeLuca bleeding out… Faced with the severity of his injury, the doctor immediately was sent to surgery where Owen and Teddy took matters into their own hands.
The twist?
As DeLuca seemed out of the woods, he appeared on the infamous Meredith Beach - meanwhile between life and death battling Covid-19.
"Whatever happens to me, I want you to know that I had never before felt this feeling of being seen as you looked at me", then blurted DeLuca to Meredith on the beach, just before being officially declared dead in hospital.
