THE ESSENTIAL

  • Nearly 4,000 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, patients evacuated from certain regions to avoid the saturation of hospitals: the health crisis is far from over in France despite the protection promised by the vaccination campaign.

  • A new confinement has been ruled out for the time being in Ile-de-France, the most populous region of the country with 12 million inhabitants and in the grip of a very sharp increase in the number of Covid-19 patients.

  • "A certain number of medical evacuations" must take place "in the coming days", in order to transfer patients to other regions, government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced on Wednesday, after a health defense council and the Council of Ministers.
