In 2018, in a video that quickly went viral, Cécile Djunga, who then presented the weather on the French-speaking channel RTBF, denounced, in tears, the racism of which she was the target on social networks.

"Receiving 'Dirty negress, come back to your country", in fact it's not funny, (...) I'm fed up ", she confided in this video entitled" Rant ".

She had decided to take the case to court, supported by her employer, RTBF, which became a civil party.

In the investigation launched after his complaint, a man from the Mons region (south), acting on several social networks under his real name, was quickly implicated.

He was on trial Tuesday in particular for “incitement to racial hatred” at the Brussels Criminal Court.

"Outside the limits of freedom of expression"

Six months in prison and a 250 euros fine were requested by the representative of the prosecution.

The prosecution also accused him, in a joint file, of having defended the Jewish genocide in other messages posted on the Internet.

"We are completely outside the limits of freedom of expression," commented at the end of the hearing Me Audrey Adam, lawyer for Cécile Djunga.

She denounced the "hateful" and "violent" attitude of the defendant, for whom "it is impossible that a black person is not attacked" in Belgium.

"He even regrets that it does not happen more".

The man "declared no regrets and claimed his ideology"

During the procedure, the man "declared no regrets and claimed his ideology", declared Cécile Djunga.

"We must stop this kind of behavior, whether on social networks, at school, in the street, in a football match, whatever," added the 32-year-old host and actress.

The defendant, already sentenced to suspended sentence for insulting the police, was tried in his absence ("by default"), because he did not wish to face the court alone.

The defense lawyer came to explain at the start of the hearing that he did not have enough time to study the case.

He requested, in vain, a report of the trial.

The judgment will be rendered on April 13.
