While several communities, and in particular the Loire-Atlantique departmental council, have already engaged on the issue of menstrual insecurity, the president of the region (LR) Christelle Mor Anglais has also decided to move forward.
In a press release published on Monday, on the occasion of Women's Rights Day, the elected official announced that all 296 public and private high schools in the region could be equipped with distributors of free periodic protection, "biological, sourced. and traceable ”, starting in the 2021-2022 school year.
Thirteen pilot establishments
The measure, which will be discussed during a session at the end of March, will take effect quickly since 13 pilot establishments will be equipped from mid-April, hopes Christelle Mor Anglais.
This list includes two high schools in the Nantes area: Léonard-de-Vinci in Nantes and Notre-Dame in Rezé.
“Menstrual insecurity is an intolerable attack on the dignity of women.
We have decided to take concrete action to fight against this phenomenon which, for many young girls, is a real suffering and to help them to live their schooling in all serenity ”, estimates Christelle Moranché.
A few days ago, the government announced that periodic coverage would soon be free for female students.
