Chile is the country with the highest number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus per 100 inhabitants in the world in the last seven days, overtaking Israel.

"Today we have a new reason to be proud: Chile took first place in the global ranking of doses administered (within the last seven days) per 100 inhabitants," wrote the government of the South American country on Twitter on Tuesday after the data of the statistics portal "Our World in Data" had become known.

According to this, Chile has vaccinated 1.08 doses per day per 100 inhabitants on average for the past seven days, Israel 1.03.

In total, the country with a population of 18 million has administered at least one vaccine dose to 4,176,094 million people since the start of its vaccination campaign in December.

That corresponds to more than 21 percent of the population.

On Monday, Chile registered a daily record with 319,014 vaccinated, as the newspaper "La Tercera" reported.

Chile, along with Mexico and Costa Rica, was one of the first countries in Latin America to start vaccinating the population and had negotiated early to acquire vaccines.

It was thus possible to guarantee 35 million cans, 10 million of which have already arrived.

Most of them come from the Chinese company Sinovac.

Despite the comparatively successful vaccination campaign, the country has high numbers of infections - most recently more than 5000 new people infected every day - and that for several days in a row.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, a total of 864,064 people in Chile have been proven to be infected with the coronavirus, and 21,182 people have died in connection with Covid-19.

RKI reports 4252 new infections

The health authorities in Germany reported

4252

new corona infections to

the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day

.

In addition,

255

more deaths were recorded

within 24 hours

.

That comes from the numbers of the RKI from Tuesday.

Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 3943 new infections and 358 new deaths within one day.

The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard from 4.40 a.m., changes or additions are possible afterwards.

According to the RKI, the

number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (

seven-day incidence

) was

67.5

nationwide on Tuesday morning

- and thus slightly lower than the previous day (68.0).

Four weeks ago, on February 9, the incidence was 72.8.

The number of new infections in Germany fell significantly for weeks in January and February.

Recently, however, it stagnated, which could also be due to the spread of more contagious variants.

The RKI has counted 2,509,445 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at around 2,319,600.

The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 72,189.

The nationwide

seven-day R-value

was

0.97

(previous day 1.03)

according to the RKI management report from Tuesday evening

.

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 97 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

In the

district of Calw

, all shops have been open since Tuesday, although the seven-day incidence is actually over 50 per 100,000 inhabitants.

According to its own statements, the Calw district office relies on an "adjusted incidence" and the state's current Corona ordinance.

It states that "when assessing the incidence values, the health department can take appropriate account of the diffusivity of the infection process".

The infection process in the district can be limited in significant parts and is therefore not diffuse, the health department announced on Monday.

The authority has calculated out outbreaks that can be localized well locally - for example "secured chains of infection with well-followed contact persons," said a spokeswoman on Tuesday.

The so-called adjusted incidence is therefore below 50 for five days in a row. The shops in the 25 municipalities of the district should therefore be open.

In the RKI ranking of the

federal states with the highest rate of second vaccinations

(as of Tuesday, 10.30 a.m.), Berlin has now taken the lead with 3.6 percent.

In the capital, vaccinations were also carried out on Monday's public holiday (Women's Day), according to Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) there are currently 9,000 vaccinations per day in the vaccination centers and by mobile teams.

In the vaccination ranking, Berlin followed Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia with 3.5 percent each and Bremen, Bavaria, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 3.4 percent each.

Lower Saxony (2.6 percent) as well as Hesse, Saxony and Saarland (each 2.8 percent) have the lowest vaccination rates.

Corona in Europe

In

Hungary

the pressure on hospitals is growing.

The burden on the clinics continues to increase in view of the rapidly increasing number of infections, says the chief medical officer Cecilia Müller.

On Tuesday, the authorities in the country of 10 million people reported

8,270

new positive tests, more than at the height of the second corona wave in December.

A further increase in new infections is expected.

In

Denmark

, the government sees scope for more easing thanks to a stabilization of the corona situation.

Health Minister Magnus Heunicke announced on Twitter that the R value is now 1.0 and that means that the infection rate is not increasing.

"This gives us the basis for a further controlled opening." Despite the recent easing, the situation has not deteriorated, although the British virus variant, which is considered to be more infectious, has now been found in around 80 percent of all positive tests.

Italy

has passed the

100,000 corona death

mark.

After 318 deaths were reported on Monday, a total of 100,103 people have died as a result of Covid-19 in the country.

This makes Italy the sixth nation to cross this line after the US, Russia, India, Great Britain and Mexico.
