Covid-19 screening at Nice airport -

SYSPEO / SIPA

  • The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture will announce in the middle of the week whether the weekend confinement will be extended or not.

  • According to the latest figures, the number of cases is declining but hospitalizations are increasing.

Will the inhabitants of the Alpes-Maritimes coast be confined again next weekend?

With a declining incidence rate of Covid-19 in the department, the mayor of Nice is speaking out against it.

But the decision will be up to the prefect who "analyzes the data, continues to consult and should clarify things in the middle of the week" as to the restrictions to come.

Presumably between Wednesday and Thursday morning.

We take stock of these famous data.

The number of cases drops despite the English variant

First positive element, according to state services, "the vast majority of Maralpins have shown responsibility and good citizenship" Saturday and Sunday.

"Between Friday 6 p.m. and Sunday 5 p.m.", checks by the police and gendarmerie on 15,081 people all the same "gave rise to 956 verbalizations", specifies the prefecture.

Enough to continue to lower incidence rates?

The number of cases per 100,000 residents began to drop ten days ago, before the first weekend of containment.

It went from 831 to 604 in the Nice metropolis, still remaining far ahead of the French average (217) according to data from Public Health France.

At the level of the department, the rate has also decreased: from 594 to 473 in one week.

A downward trend as the English variant, even though reputed to be up to 70% more contagious, has become largely the majority in screenings.

According to Biogroup laboratories, it now concerns 67.2% of positive tests recorded in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The South African and Brazilian variants, on the other hand, are only detected in 2.7% of cases.

Hospital services still overheating

Concern remains, however, for hospitals, where 1,135 deaths attributed to Covid-19 (+71 in one week) have been recorded since the start of the epidemic.

According to the latest data published by the ARS Paca, 123 people were in intensive care in the department on Monday.

The initial capacity of these services is greatly exceeded (141.4%) and 90.3% of beds (including those specially vacated) are occupied.

Significant tension despite the “twelve medical evacuations carried out in the last two weeks” outside the department, recalls the prefecture.

The vaccination of people at risk, which was accentuated this weekend, will perhaps gradually reduce these tensions.

According to state services, on Sunday evening, 87,855 inhabitants of the department had been vaccinated, of which 36,981 received two injections.

In the metropolis of Nice alone, 13,048 people were entitled to the first dose between Saturday and Sunday.
