An operation often leaves indelible marks.

To reduce the appearance of a scar a little, there is nevertheless a possibility: massage it.

What are the gestures to practice?

Should we use cream?

Physiotherapist Frédéric Srour answers all these questions in the program "Sans rendez-vous" on Europe 1.

Massaging a scar after an operation has several virtues.

This makes it less visible, makes the skin more supple, but also reduces the pain that can be felt.

But be careful, do not perform this gesture on just any scar and with any product.

Physiotherapist Frédéric Srour explains how to take care of your scar in the program

on Europe 1.

Which scar can be massaged?

Before starting to soften a scar, you must have the advice of a health professional.

"You still need a visual examination to see if the scar can be massaged in self-massage", explains Frédéric Srour.

In any case it is not possible to massage a wound "which is red, which is still open or which bleeds. It is the same for one which shows signs of infection with pus or small blisters around", adds- he does.

What products can you use to massage?

Once the opinion is obtained, it remains to know with what to relax the skin around this scar.

For the physiotherapist, it is not mandatory to place a product on the skin before massaging it.

If you really want to add a product, you can take "PH neutral moisturizer, natural oil, or something silicone or hyaluronic acid," he advises.

What movements do you need to do?

The physiotherapist then delivers several movements to be performed during the massage.

Frédéric Srour therefore recommends "mobilizing" the wound by making "small circular friction".

It is also possible to "pinch it regularly along the entire length, in one direction or transversely," he adds.

Mobilizing the skin makes it possible, he says, to make it up to “4,000 times more flexible”.
