Ten years before the Great East Japan Earthquake, the children of the Centers for Early Childhood Education and Care in Samani Town, Hokkaido, conducted an evacuation drill assuming an earthquake.

At the Centers for Early Childhood Education and Care in Samani Town, we conduct monthly training in anticipation of earthquakes and tsunamis.

On the 8th, more than 100 children participated in the training assuming an earthquake, and when the occurrence of the earthquake was reported, the children hurriedly sneaked under the desk in the classroom to ensure safety.

The children then evacuated outside the building, and after all were confirmed to be safe, they completed the training.

A 6-year-old girl said, "I was thrilled with the training, but I'm glad I practiced running away because I don't know when the earthquake or tsunami will come."

In Samani Town, a tsunami of about 3 meters was observed in the Great East Japan Earthquake 10 years ago, causing damage such as flooding of houses.

For this reason, the Centers for Early Childhood Education and Care reviewed the evacuation plan after the earthquake, added not only nearby hills but also town halls as evacuation destinations when the tsunami hits, and increased the number of buses used for evacuation by one to two. It means that you are preparing for a disaster by making it.
