  • Unions and feminist associations are calling for a strike this Monday, March 8, "at work or at home".

  • The Parisian procession must pass in front of a hospital, McDonald's and a university to pay tribute to the heroines and victims of the health crisis.

At work and at home, this March 8, International Women's Rights Day, will be marked by strikes and demonstrations.

Unions like Solidaires and the CGT and feminist associations like Les effrontées and Dare feminism, among others, are calling for demonstrations on Monday in several cities in France.

A “festive and feminist” gathering is also planned for Sunday March 7, Place de la République in Paris.

In the capital, the procession will start in front of the Cochin hospital, to ask for “resources for the caregivers”;

and will pay tribute on its passage in particular to the cashiers, to the “intermittent and precarious”, and to all the “first of corvée”.

"It is thanks to a band of women that the company has been able to continue to run," recalls Sophie Binet, of the CGT, for which this March 8 is an appeal to the government to "revalue salaries, reopen beds in the hospitals, and build an egalitarian society ”.

Ana Azeria, of the Women equality association, which defends women home helpers, recalls that they represent 400,000 people, 97% of whom are women.

"In this profession the anger is immense because they have no recognition," she said, regretting that these women did not receive the Covid premium or the increase in Ségur of 183 euros.

"The CGT has not signed this Ségur and considers that it would be necessary to operate the salary increase in these trades", adds Mireille Stivala, of the CGT health.

37% of female students had suicidal thoughts

Violence against women will not be forgotten.

The Parisian procession must symbolically stop in front of the Palais de Justice, on the Île de la Cité.

For Claire Charlès, of the Les effrontées association, justice “fails to provide a legal response to the victims.

The Julie affair is characteristic of our patriarchal system, ”she said, referring to this young woman of 14 at the time, who took the Supreme Court against several firefighters, convicted of“ sexual assault ”and not for rape, as she asks.

"We ask society to become aware of the organized torture system that is pornography," adds Ursula Le Menn, Dare Feminism.

The procession will also pass in front of the Sorbonne, the students being, according to Mélanie Luce of the Unef, even more affected than the students in this health crisis.

The young woman recalls that the cost of living is higher for the latter by 534 euros per year more, and that 37% of students had suicidal thoughts against 22% of students, according to the Observatory of student life.

"We should revalue feminized professions"

Finally, and since it is not only a demonstration but also a strike, work will be central in the demands this year.

"We have made a lot of progress on the free disposal of the body, but on the capital-labor struggle, it is difficult to move forward," notes Suzy Rojtman, of the National Women's Rights Collective (CNDF).

For the activist, "it would be necessary to revalorize the feminized professions, and to prohibit the part times lower than 24 hours".

The Parisian procession will pass in front of a McDonald's in Saint-Michel, with a speech expected from the McDroits collective, a group of mobilized employees and ex-employees who expect “more respectable conditions” and denounce “repeated sexual and sexist harassment in the workplace. 'business ".

Last October, the collective obtained the right for employees to be able to work in trousers, and not necessarily in a skirt.

First victory!

Following the pressure we put on the company and after a meeting with the members of the collective on Tuesday, the management of McDonald's France is committed to putting an end to the wearing of the compulsory skirt in all its restaurants!

To protest, the organizers recall that the strike is not only a strike for salaried work, but that it can go through a strike for studies and domestic work.

"We are preparing the feminist strike whether at work or in the private sector," recalls Anne, from the collective We stop all.
