Major private railway companies in the Tokyo metropolitan area are increasingly reducing the number of new graduates hired in 2022, who will join the company in April next year, saying that their business performance has deteriorated due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Of these, Tokyu Corporation has decided to reduce the number of new graduates hired in 2022 from 25 to 30, which is about half that of the new year and 2021.

In particular, we do not hire occupations related to railway operations, such as station staff and drivers, due to the expansion of one-person operation.

In addition, Keihin Electric Express Railway plans to reduce the number of new graduates hired in 2022 from 60 to 70, which is about half that of the new year and 2021.

In both cases, the main reason is that the number of passengers is declining due to the influence of the new coronavirus and the business performance is deteriorating, and Odakyu Electric Railway and Keio Electric Railway are also considering reducing the number of new graduates hired in 2022.

In addition to private railways, JR East and West Japan have announced plans to significantly reduce hiring, and the impact of the spread of infection is spreading to employment.
