The Cherbourg public prosecutor's office announced Sunday to AFP that an investigation of flagrance for attempted homicide was opened after two men were seriously injured by firearms and knives on Saturday.

Around 4.30 p.m. on Saturday, on the heights of Cherbourg, “a group of individuals opened fire with a hunting-type weapon and fled.

Two men born in 1992 and 1993 were wounded by shot and stab wounds, and were operated on, while a third person was more lightly injured, ”said Yves Le Clair, prosecutor of Cherbourg.

Patterns that remain unclear

"We can not yet identify the reasons (for this attack) with precision," added the prosecutor.

Two individuals, who had been pointed out by a crowd movement as accomplices and who had been placed in police custody, were exonerated, according to the same source.

The technical findings are continuing and the two victims could be heard shortly by investigators.

The judicial police (PJ) of Caen and the police station of Cherbourg were seized jointly of the investigation.
