Anyone who has followed the recent tectonic shifts in aesthetic certainties caused by Woke activism could have guessed that there would still be a dispute over Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb": the absolute insistence that art is above all authentic through an expressing voice is communicated that speaks of lived experience;

the head-shaking indignation that there could even be a difference between the artistic and the real self, each of which should be judged differently;

the confusion between real speech and figurative speech.

In the American debate in particular, “voice” and “experience” are the buzzwords that seem to instantly redeem what it has been all about now: “visibility”.
