  • Le Carnet is a former Loire Island partly backfilled, located between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire.

  • A ZAD was set up there in August to prevent the realization of a port and economic project.

  • The project is suspended but the opponents remain in the area.

They want to celebrate their six months of installation and recall their "determination to fight against the concreteization" of this former island of the Loire.

The occupants of the ZAD du Carnet (Loire-Atlantique) are organizing a “festive” event this Saturday.

The gathering, called Carna'zad, should start at 2 p.m. in the village of Paimbœuf and end at the Carnet site, in the town of Frossay, four kilometers further.

“The objective is to make people discover the places, explain the port project and present the issues.

Also show that the people who live here have nothing of the villains that some describe ”, explains Gabriella Marie, spokesperson for the Stop Carnet collective.

The activists are protesting against a project to create a logistics base and set up businesses in the field of "eco-technologies" led by the Grand Maritime Port of Nantes-Saint-Nazaire.

The latter let it be known in November that he was postponing for at least a year a project which was, in any case, little advanced.

But the opponents are holding on.

"Nothing prevents the Port from starting the first phase of site development," explains Gabriella Marie.

"We don't want a drama like in Sivens"

In recent weeks, many elected officials, not all in favor of the Grand Maritime Port project, have been calling for the expulsion of the Zadists.

They denounce disturbances to public order, sanitation problems, non-compliance with sanitary rules.

They also fear that the camp, occupied by several dozen occupants, will grow to the point of becoming uncontrollable.

“There is obviously a trauma with Notre-Dame-des-Landes.

But the two files have nothing to do, the stakes are not the same.

This parallel is absurd, ”considers the spokesperson for the Stop Carnet collective.

Justice has given the green light to expulsion.

The prefecture intends to follow up on it but does not say anything about the date.

Such an operation will require a significant deployment of law enforcement agencies on difficult terrain because it is partly covered with vegetation and bordered by the Loire.

Without counting the barricades of the Zadists.

“The risk of deportation is very real,” admits Gabriella Marie.

We will not let this happen.

People will obviously defend the place.

But we don't want a drama like in Sivens either.
