On March 5, 2021 local time, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, a thousand-year-old temple was set on fire. Although firefighters tried to fight the fire, the wooden building Daxiong Hall was completely destroyed.

It is reported that the destroyed Daxiong Hall is a cultural relic, and property losses amounted to 1.7 billion won (approximately RMB 9.79 million). Fortunately, no one was injured.

It is understood that the arson suspect is a 53-year-old monk who took the initiative to call the police after committing the crime and was arrested on the spot by the police.

He confessed to the police that he was dissatisfied with the temple and committed the crime.

Neijang Temple was built in 636 AD and has a history of more than 1,300 years. It was accidentally destroyed during the Korean War and in 2012. The most recent restoration was in 2015.
