Ten years before the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Sanriku Coastal Road, which the government is developing as a reconstruction road, opened all sections in Miyagi Prefecture on the 6th.

The Sanriku Coastal Road is a motorway that connects Sendai City and Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, for approximately 360 kilometers, and is being developed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a reconstruction road.

Of these, the section between the Kesennuma Port Interchange and the Karakuwa Peninsula Interchange in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, was opened on the 6th, 10 years before the Great East Japan Earthquake, and now all 126 km sections in Miyagi Prefecture have been opened.

On the 6th, the opening ceremony was held at the so-called "Kanenoohashi", which was built in this section and has a length of 680 meters and crosses Kesennuma Bay.

After Governor Murai said, "I am confident that it will greatly contribute to the recovery from the earthquake," we celebrated the opening of the road by cutting tapes.

This Sanriku coast road, we plan to approximately 87% of the entire except for the part of Iwate Prefecture was opened, to open the whole line to the prospect of the end of the year.

The route of the Sanriku Coastal Road is set to avoid areas flooded during the Great East Japan Earthquake, and not only supports local industry and livelihoods, but also serves as an infrastructure to support the transportation of goods and restoration work in the event of a disaster. It is expected.
