China News Service, Hong Kong, March 5th. Zheng Ruohua, Senior Counsel, Secretary of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) attended the online signing ceremony on March 5. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a special fund to strengthen economic and legal infrastructure.

The special fund is set up under the APEC Economic Committee and will provide funding for capacity building to help strengthen the economic and legal infrastructure of APEC economic systems and promote economic development in the region.

The current chairman of the APEC Economic Committee is the director of the Office of Inclusive Dispute Avoidance and Resolution of the Department of Justice.

The establishment of this special fund not only demonstrates the contribution of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to promoting economic development in the region, but also indicates that it will establish a stronger, closer and long-term partnership with APEC.

This will help enhance the visibility and reputation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and further consolidate its position as an ideal transaction facilitating hub and a major international legal and dispute resolution service center in and outside the region.
