Eurovision, a springboard to

The Voice

 ?

Saturday, Nayah, the French representative at Eurovision 1999 will try her luck at the blind auditions of the TF1 telecrochet.

Last year, it was Maria Cuche, and the one before, Lisa Angell, respectively candidates from Ireland in 1985 and France in 2015, who found themselves on the show.

Pure chance or deliberate choice?

"A mixture of the two", answers Bruno Berberes, casting director of

The Voice

.

Throughout the year, he skims the song contests and open stages of France.

Fate thus led him to meet Maria near Nancy, where she has lived for several years, or to officiate in a jury alongside Lisa Angell.

But when others would look down on these artists who have passed their forties, he does not fall into snobbery.

And for good reason: from 2001 to 2012, he was the head of the French delegation to Eurovision and therefore knows perfectly the great musical barnum, its codes and its backstage.

"Find another way to talk about yourself"

“Eurovision is a song contest and

The Voice

is a talent contest.

One is not above the other.

The two are transversal ”, explains Bruno Berberes.

In his eyes, putting oneself in danger in a telecrochet after having represented his country in front of some one hundred million viewers is not a step backwards.

“Eurovision is not a highway to success for everyone.

It's a moment of glory, he explains.

When that doesn't work, you have to find another way to talk about yourself.

"

Virginie Vetrano, alias Lisa Angell, does not say the opposite.

Six years ago, she finished twenty-fifth out of twenty-seven at Eurovision Song Contest.

“At the time, it was very violent.

The album that I had just released was born dead, nobody was more interested in the rest of my career, ”recalled the singer with

20 Minutes

before her appearance in

The Voi

this in 2019.

The students of her singing school had encouraged her to appear on the TF1 show.

“I said I was going to give it a go to do something a little bit extraordinary that I won't do at 60 or 70.

This is my last great experience, "slipped the one who had just entered her fifties and had ended up being eliminated in the" battles ", against Leona Winter, future semi-finalist.

Since then, she has hardly been talked about.

Last year, things turned out better for Maria, 55, who flew through the competition to the semi-finals, enjoying extensive media coverage.

"Getting back to basics"

We will know on Saturday whether Nayah can hope for a similar success in the telecrochet.

At

20 Minutes

, she gives a speech with humility.

“When you have the privilege, the luck, the honor of doing Eurovision, it means that you have a certain background, a standing,” she said.

The Voice

is one of the greatest musical challenges today.

My duty is to get back to basics, to stay true.

It's still a new experience, and like everything you do for the first time, you have to manage the pressure as you go and always be on top.

"

Should we expect to see an artist who has passed through Eurovision again in the next season of

The Voice

?

Bruno Berberes does not close the door.

He smiles: “I have my file in my head.

"The Voice", springboard to Eurovision

It is very frequent, since the concepts of telecrochets -

New star

,

Popstars

,

Rising Sta

r… - develop on the chains of the whole world, to find candidates who come from them at Eurovision.

Duncan Laurence, the latest winner, was illustrated in the Dutch version of

The Voice

On the French side, we can cite Amandine Bourgeois, winner of

New Star

, in 2013, then Amir in 2016 and Bilal Hassani in 2019, passed by

The Voice

and

The Voice Kids

.

At Eurovision 2021, Gjon's Tears semi-finalist of

The Voice

France in 2019, will represent Switzerland.

The representative of France, Barbara Pravi, for her part refused to do

The Voice
