Nine great monkeys have been vaccinated against the coronavirus at the San Diego Zoo, California.

According to the zoo management, this was a response to the outbreak of the virus in a group of lowland gorillas.

Four orangutans and five bonobos received their doses in January and February, three bonobos and one gorilla should still be vaccinated.

The vaccinations are experimental.

The coronavirus was discovered in eight western lowland gorillas in the zoo's safari park in January.

They were believed to have contracted the virus from a zookeeper who tested positive for the virus.
